Hi chaps (& ladies if there are any out there)?
I possibly wouldn’t be introducing myself on the forum were it not for the theft of virtually all of my kit last April. Thanks to Pete Knight & Rob I’m glad to say I took up the invite to join the OC’s, although you’ll do well to see me anywhere due to heavy business commitments. With the rest of my family I run a busy village shop (hence ARKWRIGHT), but am in fact a retired police officer. I was collecting WW1 kit as a young lad but since my retirement and the realization that there is some truly superb reproduction work being undertaken by certain individuals I have quite deliberately set about putting together a comprehensive set of British Infantry uniform and equipment. My biggest pleasure has been in helping to bring about the Lennon’s B5 boots which most of you are now be familiar with. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to help out on the Hovis advert as did my daughter who was a Suffragette. It was brilliant; one of our most memorable days out. Today I’m slowly bringing a collection back together, but it has been slow going.
Interest in this particular war goes back to when I was about 11yrs old. I don’t know where it comes from and I did not fully appreciate three great uncles served in the war until quite recently. Two were Grenadiers and I think the third was a Sherwood Forrester.
My other interests include O gauge model railways, and I act as moderator on the ACE Trains forum site; Meccano and a classic car my wife & I run (1937 Morris 8 two seater). I might not be able to get around the events you chaps get involved in, but I do appreciate the group and will always strive to help where I can.
